|THE ENERGY OF FRIDAY 13th|
|JULY 15, 2012 – NEW MOON WEEK|
So… did anyone feel creepy about this little calendar event last week? If so, maybe you’ve got friggatriskaidekaphobia — the offiicial name for having a phobia of Friday 13th! Jokes aside, this particular Friday 13th was a bit special – the THIRD one we’ve already had in 2012… and each of them spacedexactly 13 weeks apart! Oooh! OK, so we can all have a bit of a chuckle about the superstitious nature of Friday the 13th, BUT lots of people all over the world take it very, very seriously. Many cities do not have a 13th Street, and some buildings don’t have a 13th floor. An estimated 17 to 21 million Americans claim to be fearful about Friday the 13th. Some avoid their normal routines in doing business, taking flights or even getting out of bed. (Other people, particularly marketing dudes, choose to cash in on it: horror flickThe Cabin in the Woods was released this year on Friday the 13th of April).
Traditionally: 13 is considered an unlucky number, while Friday is an unlucky day. Mash them together and: WHAMMO! Don’t be holding any weddings, now! The idea probably stems from the notion that 12 represents order and completeness (12 months of the year, 12 hours of the clock, 12 gods of Olympus, 12 Apostles of Jesus)… while in myth/legend, when a 13th element is added to an already-established dozen, things always seem to go haywire. There’s the Viking tale of Loki and the Hindu belief that it’s unlucky for 13 people to gather in one place… and at the Last Supper, Jesus was betrayed, then crucified. (On a FRIDAY.) And don’t forget: 12 witches in a coven, and the 13th member is the devil!
So how much of these folkloric ‘good luck’, ‘bad luck’ beliefs should a spiritual person take on? Well, they’re certainly OK to have fun with, and are definitely interesting from a historical point of view. They say if you have 13 letters in your name, you will have the devil’s luck (Jack the Ripper, Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer, Theodore Bundy and Albert De Salvo!!!) BUT really, I think we all know that luck is something we create and manifest ourselves. So… is it “true” that last Friday the 13th carried a negatively energetic charge, due to people all over the world worrying about it? Probably. A bit.Anything becomes powerful if you direct positive or negative energy at it, so the less you thought about Friday 13 and got along with your normal day, the better. And think of it this way… the Ancient Egyptians believed life was a quest for spiritual ascension which unfolded in stages — twelve in this life and a thirteenth beyond… symbolising mystery, universal magic and everlasting life, transformation and possibility.
